In order to show off our project we need to consider a number of things. One of the things we need to consider is what is the best way for people to experience our project in VR. As the VR equipment we have access to can only display a relatively low number of pixels, we should think of how high a quality we want to display our world. If we lower the quality of our world it would allow the experience to be smoother, and therefore more effective for our project. As we have found through our own use of the Oculus Rift, a smooth experience is key to the user feeling immersed in the experience. We have also noted that an unsteady frame rate when using the Oculus can lead to the user experiencing motion sickness. If we were to present it this way we would be interested in holding an event where people would be able to experience our work and also give us valuable feedback.
However, when presenting our project without the VR it would be beneficial to have the world in high quality as this would best show off our work. Without the limitation of the Oculus’ low-res screens we would be able to show our creation in its full detail. With this however we have an issue of how the user would be able to move through this world. As the majority of people do not have computers capable of playing games we would have to provide another way for our audience to see our project. One way in which this could be done is through a video that takes the user through our world, showing of various aspects our project. This would allow the viewer to see the exploration aspect of our project as well as seeing the world replaced with an urban landscape. The downside of this however is that the user will not be able to experience this themselves but will be taken on the journey with our recording. This may lead to the experience being less immersive but I believe it may be the best way to show our project off to people without the hardware to run it effectively.
